New ‘give while you book’ trend sees UK’s kind-hearted shoppers donating to their favourite good causes while booking their holiday

  • Of the £2.5m raised for good causes in first six months of year through
easyfundraising giving platform, over £718,500 is from holiday and travel
    bookings
  • Holiday and travel bookings made through the platform are up 20% for
the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2022
  • There’s still time to help your favourite good cause – with people who
are still to book their holidays for this year urged to ‘give while they
    book’

A new trend of UK holidaymakers ‘giving while they book’ has seen over £718,500 go to
good causes through UK holidays and travel in the first six months of the year alone – all at
no cost to them.

easyfundraising, the UK’s leading giving platform, has helped over 60,000 good causes so far
in 2023, raising a staggering £2,580,656 for them in the first six months of the year.

As travel is one of the biggest purchases many of us make, it is a really easy way of raising
money for your favourite charity or cause. Over £323,000 has been raised just through
bookings made with Booking.com since January, showing the impact of booking holidays
and travel through the easyfundraising platform.

The highest single donation to a good cause was made via Booking.com with a £786.02
donation, followed by a TUI booking leading to a £545.52 contribution to a good cause. So, if
you’re planning a big holiday, or there are a few of you booking, it can make a real
difference at a time when household budgets are stretched.

Travel retailers on the site include TUI, British Airways, P&O Ferries, Thomas Cook, Jet2 and
Expedia with travel insurance available from MoneySuperMarket, Go.Compare and
Compare the Market too.

There are over 190,000 charities and good causes to choose from on the platform. From
well-known charities such as Save the Children, RSPCA and Macmillan to smaller charities
such as 1st Shinfield Road Brownies in Reading and Hillside Playgroup in Montrose – if your
good cause isn’t on there then you can add it on.

Grassroots charities and causes account for over two-thirds of those on the site, meaning
from local football clubs to your school’s PTA it’s a cost-free way of supporting the local
causes you care about.

One supporter, Blythe, said they raised over £20 for British-Ukranian Aid when she booked
her holiday through TUI last year. David also raised a similar amount for Cancer Research UK
when he booked his family holiday.

Some of easyfundraising’s travel partners are offering extra donations just in time for the
summer holidays.

Booking.com are giving a 4% donation for any purchase made through them, so whatever is
spent on a holiday, 4% of that will donated to the cause of choice by the travel company. So,
a £1,500 summer break could result in a hefty £60 donation to charity.

James Moir, CEO of easyfundraising, says: “With the cost-of-living crisis squeezing
household budgets and many cutting back on luxuries like a holiday from the increase in
price, many may be looking for a cheap staycation or a weekend break.

“If they book through us, we could also ensure charities and good causes benefit, without it
costing you a single penny more. That’s what’s so good about it – charities get extra cash
and you’re not left out of pocket.”
