How The Friends of the Charter School raised over £450 this time last year

Each month, we recognise ‘Fundraising Heroes’, giving them the spotlight to highlight the incredible difference causes and charities across the UK make every day.

The Friends of the Charter School have raised almost £2,500 to date – an inspirational example of what a PTA can achieve with easyfundraising.

Who are The Friends of the Charter School?

The Charter School is a co-educational, non-selective school in the London Borough of Southwark. The Friends of The Charter School is run by a dedicated team of parent volunteers who work in close partnership with school staff to raise funds and support events for the school and the wider school community.

Summer Triumph

The Friends of the Charter School were among the top 3 highest raising causes last summer. Their supporters raised £459.92 through shopping online for holidays, seasonal items and Back to School essentials – and the team is working hard to ensure that they build on that success this year.

Team Effort

There certainly is strength in numbers – TFOTCS currently have a band of 150 loyal supporters with more signing up all the time. Their fundraising future looks bright.

How much has The Friends of the Charter School raised to date?

So far, The FOTCS have raised almost £2,500 with easyfundraising. They have funded places on a whole-year trip to Dorset and on The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for pupils who would otherwise have been unable to participate.

What is the secret to The Friends of the Charter School success?

Clever Marketing

The fundraising team make great use of the marketing resources on the Promote My Cause section of the easyfundraising website. They create printable flyers and business cards using the templates provided and customise them with their own images. This marketing acumen helped them to sign up lots of new supporters at the last Year 7 intake evening.

Constant Communication

TFOTCS prompt their supporters to use easyfundraising via the school newsletter, and post updates on their Facebook page every time they hit one of their fundraising milestones. They also post regular ‘How to use easyfundraising’ videos on Twitter and Facebook.

Seasonal Campaigns

As well as pushing easyfundraising during the Back to School season, FOTCS also take full advantage of the opportunities to raise at other key times of the year. In common with lots of other causes, they tend to raise a big chunk of money during the run-up to Christmas. They do this both by promoting easyfundraising and by thinking outside the box. For example, at their Christmas Fair last year they set up a stall manned by volunteers with iPads who signed new supporters on the spot (complete with a large bowl of sweets to entice people to stop by). What a great idea!
